Last week at Living Alive’s first documentary screening we were joined by Anne from The Woman’s Foundation Hong Kong to talk about a documentary titled She Objects.
I was totally excited to listen to her talk about a cause that as some of you know is really dear to me, being involved with HK’s Slut Walk and all.
Watching the trailer reminded me of when i did a presentation with a friend for school about how influential the media is which can cause all types of body issues, some more serious than others but nonetheless, still issues.
Awareness is key and I think we have little to none in Hong Kong. Hopefully this encourages change or at least awareness.
When/if i ever have children, I refuse to have them grow up in an environment that makes them feel unhappy with the way they are just so a company can get a few extra dollars. Especially as the media promotes unrealistic and unachievable “beauty” which leads me to something else I am reminded of….
Documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore featured a short interview with Marilyn Manson who said:
“Because then you’re watching television, you’re watching the news, you’re being pumped full of fear, there’s floods, there’s AIDS, there’s murder, cut to commercial, buy the Acura, buy the Colgate, if you have bad breath they’re not going to talk to you, if you have pimples, the girls are not going to fuck you, and its just this campaign of fear and consumption and that’s what I think it’s all based on, the whole idea of- keep everyone afraid, and they’ll consume”
Please like and share the video. The documentary is expected to launch next year.
